Looking to get copies of the obituaries of your ancestors? Doing research for a novel or book you’re working on? The Thunder Bay Public Library Research Team would be happy to locate your desired articles.
Starting at $15.00, this service provides direct electronic delivery of your requested materials. The fee rate is $15 per half hour of staff time required to find, gather, and prepare the materials for your request. Proceeds from your research requests will go towards funding the digitization and preservation of our collections, ensuring their availability for generations to come.
Free assistance is available for:
- In person one-on-one family history sessions with our knowledgeable staff
- Tutorials on how to use our Microfilm machines at our Brodie Resource Library to conduct your own research
- The first article request of the year for Thunder Bay Public Library members.

Local History Research Assistance Includes:
- Confirmation of dates, names, and quick facts
- Brief biographical information
- Telephone numbers and addresses of businesses, associations, or individuals
- Search assistance with the Library's Online catalogue and Virtual Collection resources
- Short answers on local topics
For more complex questions, staff will direct you to various sources where you can start your research. We may also suggest that you visit the Brodie Resource Library to consult some of our resources.
Staff will not do homework for you, nor can we provide legal, medical, or financial advice. We will, however, suggest sources to help you on your research journey.
