Thunder Bay Public Library Welcomes New Director of Community Development

Thunder Bay Public Library is excited to announce the appointment of Raili Roy as the new Director of Community Development.

Raili has been serving as the Manager of Marketing with us for the past 18 months, during which time she has been responsible for overseeing the build of the new tbpl.ca website and has been involved in the development of the new strategic plan, the reorganization of our staffing structure and extensive consultations with staff as we update our internal communications and planning processes.

As the Director of Community Development, Raili plans to initiate a variety of new partnerships with other local organizations. “Libraries are a way for communities to pool resources and give access to everyone,” she said. “By engaging with new partners, we plan to broaden our collection, enhance our services and expand our program offerings. At the same time, we can help other local organizations pursue their own mandates. It’s an incredible opportunity for community development and I’m excited to get started.”

Richard Togman, CEO of Thunder Bay Public Library, added, “Raili’s dedication and vision for community engagement are invaluable. Her efforts in enhancing our library services and building meaningful partnerships will undoubtedly benefit our community. We are thrilled to have her in this new role.”

Raili’s immediate plans include building a new relationship with the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra to provide community access to Symphony performances and approaching other cultural organizations to investigate similar opportunities. She also intends to work with the Library’s Programming department to explore ways to incorporate community members into adult and children’s programming, creating new avenues for knowledge-sharing.

Raili succeeds Tina Maronese in the position. Tina has been with the Library for almost 30 years and has served as the Director of Community Development for the past 18 years. Her dedication and commitment have contributed to the Library’s ongoing success and community presence. We extend our gratitude and thanks to Tina for her years of service and wish her all the best in her well-deserved retirement.
