Thunder Bay Public Library and Lakehead Region Conservation Authority Announce 2025 Partnership

community members can enjoy Conservation Areas for free

A new partnership between Thunder Bay Public Library and the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority offers community members the opportunity to enjoy any of the LRCA’s 10 Conservation Areas for free. 20 Explore Card Parking Passes are now available for loan through the Library’s collection and can be borrowed for a week at a time by anyone with a Library Card in good standing.

“This is a great new addition to the Library’s collection of Thunder Bay attractions and experiences,” said Raili Roy, Director of Community Development for Thunder Bay Public Library. “The LRCA’s Conservation Areas are all very popular spots to hike, bird watch and enjoy nature. Two of them also include boat launches that see a lot of use in the summer, and another two are fantastic spots for winter activities. We hope that having these passes in our collection will help more people get out to enjoy the amazing experiences available right here in Thunder Bay’s big back yard.”

“The LRCA relies on the purchase of Explore Card Parking Passes and the payment of day-use/parking fees in order to maintain and enhance our Conservation Areas, however we also recognize the importance of equitable access to the outdoors,” says Tammy Cook, CAO of the LRCA. “We hope that through this partnership, more watershed residents will be able to enjoy our recreational offerings.”

The 2025 Explore Cards are available now through every branch and can be reserved through the Library’s website at www.tbpl.ca/lrca.
