YOUth Review: XOXO by Axie Oh

XOXO is a sweet romantic comedy by Korean-American author Axie Oh that follows Jenny, an award-winning cellist. One night, she meets a guy named Jaewoo and spends hours wandering around LA with him on the night before he flies back to South Korea. Jenny reckons that she will never encounter Jaewoo again, but when Jenny and her mom move to Seoul to care for her weak grandmother, she sees Jaewoo at the elite arts academy she is attending. Jenny learns that Jaewoo is not your average teenager; he is a famous idol in the rising K-pop group XOXO and he is forbidden from dating anybody. What does this mean for Jenny and Jaewoo? Find out by reading this warm and fun book!

I found this book quite interesting since I am half-Korean myself and could relate to some foods and circumstances in the novel. I also loved some of Jenny’s classmates in the story: Gi Taek, Angela, and Youngmin. I think they added some more fun to the story. However, I believe that the start of the book could have been more intriguing as I was ready to quit reading it after the first chapter but it slowly gained momentum as the book carried on, making for a happy and casual read. I would totally recommend this book to any romance novel lovers, K-pop fanatics, or even world-famous idols!
