They Both Die at the End is a heart wrenching young adult novel by Adam Silvera. The book follows main characters Mateo Torrez and Rufus Emeterio over a twenty four hour time period after they are both contacted by the Death Cast, which is a service that calls people to notify them that they will be dying within the next twenty four hours. They Both DIe At The End is a work of LGBTQ+ romance literature, but the plot itself does not just focus on the romance. The romance aspect of this book comes from the two main characters, Mateo and Rufus, meeting and living out their last twenty four hours together. During this time period they do many activities in the city of New York, where the book takes place. The two characters quickly grow close and even share a bit of romance before the heartbreaking ending of the book.
Personally, Adam Silvera’s They Both Die At The End is one of my favourite books I have ever read. The characters are very well created, both the main and the more background-type characters. Their personalities and storylines are amazingly created, giving readers a chance to really connect with the characters in the novel as they travel through the book alongside them. This book did leave me in tears at the end, but in the best way possible. The storyline itself is very well written and fairly fast paced to keep readers wanting to turn to the next page. They Both Die At The End is an amazing work of literature and a book I would recommend to anyone.
