YOUth Review: Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan

Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief is an urban fantasy adventure book targeted towards tweens and teens. However, this book that can be enjoyed by all ages. This story is about 12-year-old Percy Jackson, who is a troubled kid who has been kicked out of multiple schools. This is due to Percy claiming that there was a monster attack, or something abnormal from mythology has come to life, but everyone tells Percy he is just imagining things. Eventually these visons of monsters and the Greek gods appear more often into his life more than ever. Percy finds out that these monsters and Greek gods are in fact real, and he finds out that he is a demigod (half mortal, half god). At the winter solstice where the 12 Olympians meet, Zeus’s master lightning bolt has been stolen, and unfortunately for Percy, he is the prime suspect.

Percy and his friends must go on a quest to prevent war happening between the Greek gods by bringing back Zeus’s master lightening bolt. Unfortunately for Percy and his friends they only have 10 days to do so. Percy’s quest will decide the future of not just the Greek gods, but the entire world! Will Percy be able to prevent war from happening between the gods? Only time can tell! The book is filled with fun adventures and engaging characters, and it will make it impossible for you to stop reading. This book is a personal favourite and holds a special place in my heart because it encouraged my love of reading. If you are a young reader who enjoys adventure, Greek mythology, and excitement this book may be the book for you!
