Karen M. McManus’s novel One of Us Is Lying follows the four main protagonists. Bronwyn, Nate, Cooper, and Addy. When the four are accused of murder and begin to be wrapped up in the tangled threads of Simon’s mysterious death, tension rises, and no one knows what will come next. Will this event bring the four unknowing teens together or will they tear themselves apart? Not everyone is innocent, every detail counts, and tension is high. Everyone has secrets but, how far is the notorious four willing to go to keep them?
One of Us is Lying is a wonderful read for anyone who loves mystery and high school settings, the way it is written will have you on the edge of your seat with every paragraph. Its immaculate character description and development drew me into this story, the changing of the point of view can really give you more depth and allow you to truly see through each person’s mind.
The way the sentences are crafted hooked me immediately, I was caught on every word and constantly waiting for more from every page. I usually stick to the fantasy genre, but this book is genuinely one of the best I’ve ever read! The writing style was simply astounding, even the names of the parts within the story held secrets. The detail in the vocabulary allows the reader to feel the emotions portrayed by each character. This book may cover some deep topics, but it translates them perfectly and shows how people deal with life events differently.
One of Us is Lying is definitely worth your time, you will not regret this bewildering read, and who knows maybe you’ll find yourself discovering a new love for this genre.
