YOUth Review: Five Survive by Holly Jackson

Five Survive by Holly Jackson is a YA thriller novel about a teen girl named Red and her six friends as they are traveling in an RV to go to the beach for their spring break. While driving in the night the RV gets lost in the middle of nowhere, and the tire pops. The group learns it’s no accident, and they get stuck after all the tires get shot out, and they learn a sniper is doing this.

The sniper gives them a walkie-talkie and one request, whoever is holding the secret he is looking for must tell him. No one knows what secret he is looking for, but they do know if they don’t tell him, they won’t survive the night.

Tensions get higher as everyone tries to figure out who has the secret, and the sniper won’t stop until he has it.

At the end of the night, not all of them will be alive!

I read this book and really enjoyed it; there were so many plot twists. The ending was unexpected and satisfying. It is definitely worth the read. I didn’t like the whole book, though; at times, it felt like nothing was happening, and the characters weren’t very likable. I still think it’s a good story though and it gets more interesting at the end. I gave this book 3.5/5 stars. Holly Jackson is great at writing mysteries and thrillers, I can’t wait to see what she puts out next.
