YOUth Review: A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson

A Good Girl's Guide to Murder single handedly got out of my reading slump. The style, plot, and characters in this book make it so loveable and engaging. It follows Pip Fitz-Amobi after deciding she is going to solve the case of Andie Belle for her school's big assignment. Through her various interviews and investigations we’re giving the same information to try and uncover what truly happened to Andie Belle? With the close works of Ravi Signh, the brother of the alleged murderer of Andie, they discover many of the town's dark secrets.

All the characters are well developed and add significantly to the story. My favourite part about this book is how we’re given the interview transcripts to read through; I’ve never read a book like this and it’s a very enticing way of storytelling. I feel with some books many authors get lost with adding unnecessary detail that really takes away from the story, whereas everything written in this book is intentional and is a piece to a much bigger puzzle. Pip is a very relatable and wonderful protagonist, she is incredibly written and the book would feel very empty without her; she is very rational in nature which only fuels her determination to solve the case of Andie Bell.

I’m sure anyone in my life can tell you how much I love this book considering I talk about it so much, but overall I think it’s a great read and is part of an even better series which is worth the time and effort to read.
