TD Summer Reading Club
Registration is now full for the 2024 Session.
*Registration for the 2024 TD Summer Reading Club is now full.*
July 2 through August 17, participating kids receive prizes and praise for checking in with us every week to tell us what they've been reading.
TD Summer Reading Club helps kids develop a love of reading and reduces summer learning loss.
TD Summer Reading Club is Canada’s biggest, bilingual summer reading program for kids of all interests and abilities, ages 0 - 12. The Club celebrates Canadian authors, illustrators and stories, and inspires kids to explore the fun of reading their way. This is key to building a lifelong love of reading. It has been demonstrated that kids who read over the summer retain and build on the literacy skills that they have been practicing during the school year.
Every week, participating kids will receive prizes or coupons for free stuff just for coming in to share about what they've been reading, including a free notebook and stickers they can use to keep track of their accomplishments. We'll also have fun activities and initiatives for kids to take part in throughout the summer, wrapping up with a celebration party!
There’s something for everyone, including kids with print disabilities, and preschoolers and their families.
How Does it Work?
TD Summer Reading Club runs for 7 weeks from July 2 through August 17. Every week, participating kids check in at the Library branch they chose at registration, where they can discuss their reading with Library staff, get suggestions for their next reads and collect their weekly prizes. They can come anytime during Library hours, but are expected to check in once a week.
This program is about making reading fun, so kids are encouraged to read what makes them happy. There are no benchmarks or goals; kids can read what they like. In week 1, kids receive a notebook and stickers to help them track their reading.
What counts for reading?
- parents reading to kids
- reading books, comics, manga and magazines
- reading at any level
- reading the same book multiple times
Important details:
- Kids must be registered with TBPL in order to receive weekly incentives and participate in draws.
Our local program is entirely separate from the national program. If a patron registers online through tdsummerreadingclub.ca and not the Library, they are not eligible to receive our program materials or incentives. Registration opens in mid June, and can be done through our online calendar, in person at any Library branch, or over the phone at 807-345-8275. - Incentive prizes cannot be collected ahead of time, but if participants are unable to come each week, we can catch them up when they return.
- Kids are expected to check in every week.
In order to make sure to ensure that as many children enjoy the opportunity to participate as possible, spaces will only be held until the end of Week 2 of the program. Children who have not checked in at their selected branch by Saturday, July 13 will forfeit their place in the program so that another child may have the opportunity to participate.Â
